More Baseball Game Photos

Our brand new camera has 14x zoom... which helped us get this great photo of Youkilis:

This camera is also fantastic when we take photos of ourselves:

Images from our honeymoon are coming. We had a lot of fun playing with the zoom on our new camera, and cannot wait to share the photos we took!

The official wedding pictures should be available for everyone to see sometime this week. We'll share the link as soon as they become available. Please send us any pictures you took at our wedding. We'll try to share some of those, too.

Sox v. Sox

What a game! We went to see the Red Sox v. White Sox game last night, our first time seeing the REAL Sox away from Fenway.

The seats turned out to be really nice. We had a great view of the infield.

The weather was perfect, even as day turned to night.

Whenever the White Sox hit a home run, there were fireworks. When the Red Sox had two in a row (by Pedroia and Youkilis), there was just an eruption of cheers from the many Boston fans in the stadium. We were surprised there were so many Red Sox fans there.

Since we've moved to the Chicago area, talking about baseball has been hard. We cannot just say "the Sox" anymore, we have to qualify it!

Final Score: Red Sox 10-2!

There is a great view of the Chicago Sky line from the walk up to our seats.

We were treated to fireworks after the show. I'm not sure why I love taking pictures of fireworks, but here are a few I took of the show:

The stadium goes dark in preparation for the fireworks show.

Why Indy?

Some people have been asking my mom why we decided to name our dog Indiana. No, it is not because I lived in Indiana, or because we are in the midwest. The name Indiana ("Indy") is a reference to Indiana Jones.

Quote from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade:

There are many reasons why we became attached to this name:
  • Indiana Jones is awesome.
  • Indiana was named after his dog.
  • The dog was a husky, a breed that Keith has wanted his whole life.
  • Indy is a Trochee.
  • The dog will inherently have a doctorate.

Pub trivia

Written about 7/15
Keith and I might both have PhDs... But our trivia knowledge isn't that extensive. We went to a local wings joint for some drinks, and ended up getting a trivia game console just in time to start playing. We certainly never expected to win! Thankfully a lot of the questions revolved around pop trivia, so we had a bit more luck starting out.

This is not the outcome we expected!

We won by a large margin in our bar, but when the score was compared across the region, we didn't do that well. Too bad the bar doesn't offer prizes for winning... If they did we'd go back to play much more often!

Our Game Screen

Why did we choose the name Harpon? Harpoon's UFO is one of my favorite beers, a beer that it looks like we cannot have out here in IL. We wanted Harpoon to be our team name but could only use 6 letters.

Not only did we win, but we won by a lot!

When it rains....

Wow!  I haven't had a chance to write (and share pictures) about the storm that happened a few weeks ago... But we are in the middle of a big one now.

The power went out THREE times last night, and twice today once it started raining.  Wish me luck!

Indy at 5 weeks

No, Keith and I did not edit the following photo. The breeder's daughter edited the photo for us. I cannot wait to meet him!

"...Your little one is now five weeks old, and doing well. We are developing attitudes, and are constantly vying for "top dog" status. However, we're all just as sweet as can be, and getting R-O-W-D-Y!! lol The sound of puppy growls and yaps fills my house, and when they all decide to take naps at the same time, it is sometimes a welcome silence! Heat Wave

It is hot enough that they are interrupting programming to warn about the heat. Thank goodness for air conditioning! I think that I will be staying inside (Keith is at a conference.)

The local news has measured 120 on some pavement in the area. They were timing how long it would take to cook an egg on the sidewalk, but I decided to go make some eggs on the stove for myself so I missed the result.

We have 2 ceiling fans, 2 table fans, 1 floor fan and 2 air conditioners. I think I'll be okay in this heat wave!

Indiana Brown (Indy)

Indiana Brown is an American Eskimo puppy we will welcome into our home in mid-August. He was born June 13, 2011 to a littler of 6 (3 boys and 3 girls.) His parents are Kylee and Kodi.

A picture of Indy or (one of his brothers. )

For a long time we were set on Australian Shepherds, but eating dinner outside in Harvard Square we met a couple with an Eskie, and fell in love. After doing research on the breed, we decided that an Eskie would fit into our new family very well.

We get weekly updates (with pictures) from the breeder, Melanie:
  • July 7: "They are growling little tiny growls, and yipping at each other, and are just beginning to walk around and explore a little. They're still wobbly on their feet, but give it a few days, and they'll be running their mama ragged!"
  • July 17: "...a puppy picture of bath time....they are not thrilled with it, but it is an absolute MUST with softened food!! We are staying messy all the time, it seems like!! We love to stand in the food, play in our water bowl, and just generally act like little puppy tornadoes, now that we're up and running around!"

Indy - 3 weeks

Indy and Siblings - 4 weeks

We are still in the process of unpacking, but as we unpack we are planning where Indy's main spaces will be. Since we want to bring Indy into a steady environment, we are testing the placement of his food and water bowls now. Hopefully we can be as constant as possible for him when he comes home.

Indy's Food Spot

One of the most fun items to prepare for are dog toys. We have given the multicolored rubber ball to all of the new puppies I've met (Pita and Pinto), so we were thrilled when we found the same one to give to Indy. Among Pita's early toys was a tennis ball covered monkey, and although we couldn't find the same one we did find a pretty fun monkey toy!

A few of Indy's toys

American Eskimo dogs have a history of circus dogs, so they are able to learn a lot of tricks. Of course, we are going to work on standard manners and obedience first, but we have some other trick books to help keep Indy's brain occupied. We'll be keeping you posted on how clicker training goes.

Indy's clicker and one of the training books we have
.

There are many other things we need to get to prepare for Indy's arrival, but we are prepared with lots of little baggies to clean up after him!

Hopefully these will last us a while!

We cannot wait for Indy to arrive!

Arrival in Evanston

We have been in Evanston just over a week now, and we've been very lucky with the weather. We have had one rainy day - and the morning had a really violent storm that knocked down MANY trees in the neighborhood.

The courtyard of our new home. The building happens to be a historical landmark in Evanston, and is named "Castle Tower."

I am very happy with the movers that we used. Olympia movers were based in Watertown and then they used Wheaton to actually ship the belongings. There was a lot of stress surrounding the move, but now that it is over I would gladly work with any of these people again.

We were very impressed by the skill of the driver, Bob. I am still amazed that he managed to turn this truck around in a residential neighborhood!

We have been making progress unpacking, but there is still a lot to do. The kitchen is probably 75% set up, but at least we are able to cook for ourselves! We hope to be completely set up by the end of this week.

Can you believe that we had over 6000 lbs of stuff?
